Welcome to our Autumn 2024 Newsletter!

Message from our Chairman
Darren Ellery

Welcome to our Autumn 2024 Newsletter and an exciting year ahead for the company.

From all of us in BBLOC, we wish you and your family a very happy Christmas and everything that is good for the New Year.

Show updates since the last Newsletter

42nd Street

31 July to 3 August 2024

This was successful in terms of it being an artistic success but, unfortunately ticket sales were not sufficient for us to make a profit. However, our feedback from audiences leaving the theatre surpassed all expectations. People are still talking about the energy and vitality of the ‘tap’ numbers, some of which involved the whole company.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Wednesday 28 May to Saturday 31 May 2025

Tickets are now available through our Ticket Secretary, Dawn Knight, tickets@bbloc.co.uk, Tel: 07595 905744 or via Messenger if you are on Facebook so do book early to secure the best seats. This is going to be another great show with lots of surprises

ANNIE

29 October to 1 November 2025

We are excited to be performing ANNIE in October and again will be auditioning children from the area.

Our chosen charity

is Macmillan Caring Locally and we are now a Golden Partner

Jenny Corbin, who is our co-ordinator for this wonderful charity, has kept us involved all year. In the summer we provided the manpower for a Car Wash at their annual Summer Fete in their premises at Christchurch. Our members got stuck in all day in shifts, washing cars. It was non-stop and we raised more than £200 on the day.

We are happy to continue working in partnership with them for the moment as they have been incredibly supportive to us and this charity has touched the lives of many of us in the past as I am sure it will in the future.

June Coffee Morning at the Miramar Hotel

This was again a success and attracted some of our past members.

We were entertained by Jane Kerfoot and Phillip Fry, who performed a selection of songs from past and present musicals, accompanied by Alex. Jane also performed a monologue and a musicals’ quiz was held. We did our usual raffle and in total raised £200.

Bitesize

Bitesize have resumed their performances with the help of Jonathan Busk, Becky Bagnall and Jenny Corbin. This group is comprised of any of our members who are available to perform for ‘gigs’ in the area. They sing a variety of numbers from past shows and new shows.

These performances keep our members busy and enable us to showcase our talents.

Bitesize are available for bookings at hotels, restaurants, meetings, dinners etc and their repertoire can be tailored to specific needs so please let us know if you have any contacts who might be interested in a booking.

The Annual Garden Party

The weather was particularly kind to us this year and we attracted more than 100 people. The children enjoyed 4 hours of swimming in the pool whilst the grownups enjoyed a good catch up on the lawn. We raised a very acceptable £300.

Social Activities

BBLOC and friends have been busy socialising this year. We’ve had a great time enjoying:

  • Aerial and circus skills party
  • Sunday funday at the Slug and Lettuce
  • Theatre visits to support local companies - The Little Mermaid, The Wedding Singer, Summer Spectacular and Christmas Spectacular
  • Show week brunch and our after-show party
  • Garden party
  • Pool party
  • BBLOC’s 70th Anniversary Ball
  • Two arts and craft evenings to make Christmas cards and Christmas gonks
  • Our annual Christmas singsong and quiz – 7.30pm at St Paul’s on 16 December – everyone welcome

New Rehearsal Venue

We have now been at our new Venue, St Paul’s in Throop for a few months and this is proving to be working well on both sides. It is a very busy church and we are often sharing the space with Guides, Brownies, Food Banks and other associations. But with so many rooms to choose from it is going well.
